Cause of the Month

Acts 20:35

"In everything I showed you that by working hard in this manner you must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He Himself said, 'It is more blessed to give than to receive.'"

At American Lutheran Church, we believe in being active members of our Community. All year long we support a cause of the Month and give our love, service and generosity to help make a difference in the lives of everyone in our Community.

ALC Quilt Supplies

A longstanding ministry is stitched together by about six women who currently gather monthly for a couple of hours. Several of them spend more hours preparing the pieced tops or binding the edges after the three layers are tied together. In the fall of 2022, they packed 75 quilts and delivered them to local and international groups. The local agencies include Congregational need, City Mission, Friendship Home, Lutheran Family Service, and others. The quilts that go to Lutheran World Relief are required to have a thick batting, or middle layer, so that those that use it will stay warm to at least 55- degree weather.

This batting is not inexpensive so donations for our Quilters go toward purchasing the batting. It costs approximately $6/quilt for batting. We also pay $7.50/box toward international shipping for the quilts that go to Lutheran World Relief. If you want to know more about Lutheran World Relief Quilts, go to lwr.org and find the drop-down box at the top "Quilts.” In 2023, the quilters have displayed the quilts the month they are finished, as well as on one Sunday in October. The quilts are then packed in boxes and distributed. If you see a quilt that you would like to purchase, contact Dee Farrall or any of the quilters. The suggested donation is $50. The amount received for quilts purchased helps buy batting and other incidental supplies.
